About the event

Join the River Pierce Foundation on Sunday, March 20th at the Treviño-Uribe Rancho fort in historic San Ygnacio, TX for Poetry Under the Sundial, an annual poetry festival presented since 2015 that celebrates the spring equinox and features local and regional poets and musicians who present original works as well as literary classics. Poetry as an oral tradition has the power to express and provoke new perspectives about the world around us and can be a powerful tool to address the social and environmental challenges of our times. This year we invite readings that resonate with the spirit of renewal and seasonal atonement, which may bring hope and energy so needed in our times.

The event offers a great opportunity to visit the newly restored Treviño-Uribe Rancho fort. Sited on a bluff overlooking the Rio Grande, construction of the Rancho began in 1830 and it was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park System in 1998. This fortified complex, featuring a stone-carved sundial at its entrance gateway, is one of the few remaining vestiges of Spanish Colonial and Mexican periods of historical development in the region.
